Description:

The Transportation Bureau of the A Government Entity Office is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Attorney General (“AAG”) in the Office's Transportation Bureau. The AAG shall represent the state in court and shall serve as one of five in-house legal advisors for the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Responsibilities include:

Serve as the lead attorney to the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) concerning the environmental laws applicable to the design and construction of highway and other transportation projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
Develop and implement a Legal Sufficiency Review process for the environmental work of NDOT on highway and transportation projects, if NDOT chooses to proceed with full NEPA Assignment under 23 U.S.C. 326 and 327.
Assist NDOT with legal issues and compliance with environmental permitting processes for transportation projects, including but not limited to working with permitting agencies such as the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Lead or oversee NDOT litigation concerning environmental and other Bureau related issues.
Handle other Bureau related legal counsel work.
Be a member of a small but dedicated group of attorneys who specialize in issues unique to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Qualifications / Requirements:
Requirements: Graduation from an ABA accredited law school and a license to practice law in Nebraska, or clear ability to be licensed in Nebraska by motion; Minimum at least one year of experience in a private law firm, government agency or as a judicial clerk. Excellent legal writing skills and demonstrated work ethic.

Preferred: Three or more years of civil litigation, appellate advocacy, or administrative/criminal litigation experience. Demonstrated subject matter expertise in environmental law or in related types of positions.

Other: Some travel throughout the state of Nebraska required. A criminal history and abuse background check will be conducted prior to an offer of employment.
