Job Summary:The Arizona Attorney General's Office State Government Division/Employment Law Section is seeking an Assistant Attorney General. The successful applicant will provide legal advice to ADOA Risk Management and state agencies, boards, and commissions regarding employment-law issues; represent state agencies in administrative hearings on employee disciplinary appeals and whistle-blower complaints; represent state agencies in state, federal, and appellate courts in employment-law matters; assist state agencies respond to charges filed by employees with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; and provide training to state agencies on employment law matters; supervise support staff; and travel within and out of Arizona.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely two days a week, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.
Job Duties:
Represent the State and state employees in administrative proceedings, such as before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and State and Federal court litigation referred pursuant to A.R.S. 41-621. Review, evaluate, monitor and advise the Risk Management Division regarding statutory notices of claim and lawsuits regarding potential exposure; make recommendations regarding settlement. Advise State human resources professionals and managers regarding pending personnel issues. Research and draft legal documents, memoranda and appellate briefs, correspondence, and settlement agreements. Prepare for and appear at hearings and depositions in Phoenix and other Arizona locations, including virtually. Attend office and staff meetings, handle office administrative matters.

- Skill in persuasive oral and written communication pertaining to case presentation through various stages of representation, including litigation through trial and appeal if required;
- Skill in preparing legal documents memoranda and correspondence efficiently;
- Skills include legal and factual issue analysis, legal research, legal writing, oral presentation, and negotiation;

Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Travel is required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver's License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.
- Admission to, and good standing with, the Arizona State Bar is required (include on resume the date(s) of admission in Arizona and any other states). Candidate must have an active Arizona State Bar license.
- Attorney applicants are required to submit a writing sample with their resume/application profile.
- The writing sample should contain an analysis of some substantive legal issue and provide insight concerning your ability to think and to explain and advocate for a particular position.
