Job Description:
The Office of the Attorney General has an opening for an Assistant Attorney General within the Health and Human Services Division in Augusta. This position will represent the DHHS Office of Licensing and Certification (DLC), which includes the Background Check Center and the Certificate of Need (CON) Office. In addition, this position will represent the Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services in mental health court hearings and appeals to the Superior Court.
Representation of DLC/CON will include: assisting clients in the drafting of rules and APA legal review of rules; representation of the clients at administrative hearings and also in appellate review of DLC/CON decisions in state court; reviewing and responding to subpoenas served on clients; day-to-day legal advice on such matters as legislation, contracts, and Department policies; and responding to unusual events. The position will also assist DLC in the drafting of rules and the APA legal review of rules.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be members of the Maine Bar in good standing, have an eye for legal detail, be interested in complex state and federal litigation, have strong legal advocacy and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team. One to three years of legal practice with demonstrated proficiency in civil litigation and/or health care law and litigation is preferred.
