Description:
The Criminal Division Central Office of the Department of Law is recruiting to fill an Assistant Attorney General position. This position will focus on legal services for the Department of Corrections, which will include taking on Post Conviction Relief (PCR) cases, PCR appeals, and some aid to agency advice work for Corrections from the Civil Division. This position will deal with matters relating to criminal and administrative litigation in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels. Special projects would likely involve such things as advising on the development and implementation of policy and procedure; and advising DOC on issues related to the criminal justice system such as the transportation of inmates subpoenaed as witnesses in legal proceedings, laws about housing federal prisoners in state facilities, and the nuances of interstate compacts on probation.This is an opportunity to expand your horizons within the criminal justice field and provide influence at the policy level to make a difference in communities across Alaska. Prior prosecution experience is preferred, along with familiarity with Alaska's criminal justice system. The incumbent must be able to maintain the strictest of confidences with information they will be exposed to and have access to. There will be opportunities for occasional travel to many locations throughout the state.

Estimated Compensation
The table below gives an estimate of compensation based on a combination of judicial clerking and licensed legal experience. The compensation listed in the table represents the base pay. Several locations around Alaska have geographical pay differences. Upon a job offer, you would receive a firm salary quote based on location of position and qualifying experience. Attorneys are eligible to promote from Attorney 1 through 4 with service and acceptable job performance.
