Job Duties:
The successful candidate will represent the Commonwealth in litigation involving individuals being considered for involuntary civil commitment as sexually violent predators. Responsibilities include preparing pleadings, conducting discovery, gathering and analyzing relevant information, performing legal research, collaborating with agency partners, and litigating hearings in circuit courts throughout the Commonwealth. The position also offers opportunities to occasionally brief and argue cases before the Court of Appeals of Virginia and the Supreme Court of Virginia. This position may be based in either the Richmond or Fairfax office of the Virginia Office of the Attorney General.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Applicants must have graduated from an accredited law school, be admitted to the Virginia State Bar, and should have at least five (5) years of litigation experience.
  • The position requires exceptional written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in time management, and the flexibility to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision.

Additional Considerations:
Prior experience with expert witnesses, the psychology field, or litigating jury trials are preferrable but not required.
