Job Duties:
The attorney in this position will serve as the agency counsel to the Virginia State Board of Elections and the Virginia Department of Elections, providing both legal advice and litigation services with respect to its election programs and operations; review of election-related legislation, regulations and policies; respond to subpoena and FOIA requests; review legal issues related to inquiries from constituents and the General Assembly; draft official opinions for the Attorney General.

This position is in Richmond or Fairfax, Virginia. If not based in Richmond, there may be a need for frequent travel to Richmond headquarters. The position will report directly to the Deputy Attorney General for Commerce and Infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team.
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience, including first and second chair trial work in both state and federal courts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, technical drafting skills and the ability to analyze and manage complex cases.
  • All candidates must be admitted, or able to waive in, to the Virginia State Bar.
