Job Overview:We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Attorney General specializing in criminal law to join our legal team. Duties:
- Provide legal advice to the local law enforcement, negotiate the just resolution of assigned cases and comply with Victims' Rights.
- Maintain professional relationships with victims, witnesses, law enforcement agencies, the court and members of the community.
- Discuss and present analyses of complex State, Federal, and Tribal legal issues.
- Attend hearings, arraignments and motion hearings.
- Conducts trials and presents oral arguments as needed.
- Compose memoranda and pleadings regarding legal issues of concern as needed in assigned cases.
- Assesses criminal incidents to determine probable causes.
- Interviews witnesses, researches and analyzes legal issues using both computerized legal research and hard copy tools.
- Apply for and serve as a Special Assistant United States Attorney and handle federal prosecutions.
- Complies with all rules regulating professional responsibility, including specific regulations addressing the prosecutorial function.

- Applicable tribal, federal, state, and county laws, regulations and requirements.
- Operate various word-processing, spreadsheets and database software programs.
- Gather, analyzing and interpret complex legal documents and publications.

- Exercise independent judgment and negotiate legal actions.
- Communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Travel within the interior and exterior boundaries of the San Carlos Apache Tribe.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a course of study in an ABA accredited law school leading to a Juris Doctor Degree recognized as adequate to meet the qualification for admission to the practice of law in state bar within the United States.
- Candidates must have a license to practice law in any state bar located in the United States.
- Candidates must have five (5) years of specialized experience in investigating and prosecuting federal criminal cases and appeals, training law enforcement and providing legal advice to law enforcement during active investigations, working with victims, service as a SAUSA (preferred) and working for tribes.
