Agency Attorneys

Description:

The Labor & State Affairs section is recruiting for two full-time attorneys. The section provides legal advice and representation to state agencies in multiple areas of law, including elections, campaign finance, employment, labor relations, civil rights, separation of powers, boards and commissions, procurement, unemployment benefits, workers' compensation, and workplace safety. The section's client agencies include the Departments of Administration, Labor and Workforce Development, and Military and Veterans Affairs; the Offices of the Governor and Lt. Governor; and the Division of Elections, Division of Motor Vehicles, Alaska Public Offices Commission (APOC), and the Alaska State Commission on Human Rights.

The attorneys selected for these positions will focus on APOC, Boards and Commissions, labor relations, procurement, and Alaska Occupational Safety and Health. Each attorney will be assigned agencies and areas of law based on interest and experience. The work will be evenly split between litigation and agency advice. It can involve all aspects of agency representation, including administrative hearings and appeals, trials, arbitration, mediation, legislation, regulations, public records, open meetings, and policy considerations. These attorneys will have a high degree of autonomy in a collaborative and growing section and may also contribute to the other agencies and areas of law that the section handles.

Attorneys in the Civil Division work on matters of statewide importance, all while living in Alaska and enjoying all it has to offer. About the Labor & State Affairs Section

Qualifications:
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the state of Alaska now or within 10 months of their appointment to this position. Applicants with two or more years of licensed practice are preferred. Applicants must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, exercise excellent judgment, build strong client relationships, and manage competing deadlines.

Estimated Compensation
The table below gives an estimate of compensation based on a combination of judicial clerking and licensed legal experience. The compensation listed in the table represents the base pay. Several locations around Alaska have geographical pay differences. Upon a job offer, you would receive a firm salary quote based on location of position and qualifying experience. Attorneys are eligible to promote from Attorney 1 through 4 with service and acceptable job performance.

• Attorney 4 More than 4 years 24 B through F $125,482.50 – $143,734.50
