The Position:
The Michael Best Apprenticeship Program is designed to increase the number of attorneys who want to both pursue careers in the legal industry and promote access and engagement in the legal profession.

We are currently accepting applications for the Michael Best Apprenticeship Program in our Salt Lake City, Utah office for Summer 2026. This 10-week program will provide a unique experience to a 1L law student, incorporating both law firm and corporate in-house exposure.

Our goal is to offer the ultimate career development opportunity with exposure beyond the law firm, and for this apprenticeship, we are partnering with our valued client, 1-800 Contacts.

Challenging work assignments and exposure to substantive legal areas, including litigation and corporate while working as an apprentice

Active mentoring, including formal goal setting and feedback
A stipend is included for your participation in the program
Opportunity to take ownership of your projects and participate on-site at both a law firm and corporate office environments
Networking events and activities designed to get to know colleagues and leaders throughout the firm and 1-800 Contacts.

With mentorship from our highly skilled attorneys, we will help you to further develop your practical knowledge, drafting acumen, and become well-versed in the latest legal trends. You will be assigned an expert attorney to guide you, help you set goals, and ensure you have access to all of the tools necessary to be successful and benefit from your time spent at Michael Best and 1-800 Contacts. Throughout the program, your mentor will meet with you to conduct a formal performance appraisal and provide feedback.

Position Requirements:

Currently enrolled for 2025-2026 school year as a 1L law student at BYU or the University of Utah
Demonstrated interest in promoting access and engagement at the firm and throughout the legal profession
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
Legal analysis skills
Valid authorization to work in the U.S.
