Arnold & Porter is seeking a midlevel or senior IP litigation associate to join its Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, or Washington, DC.The practice group includes more than 140 attorneys who advise clients throughout the life cycle of their intellectual property, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, rights of publicity, and trade secrets. Within the group, our Patent Litigation team includes more than 70 litigators who handle complex disputes in which clients' core products may be at stake. The team brings trial and appellate experience to matters across major patent jurisdictions and regularly coordinates district court litigation and ITC actions with proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). More than half of the patent team holds a degree in an engineering or scientific discipline.
The associate will represent clients in patent disputes involving technologies such as electronic devices, semiconductors, integrated circuits, and mechanical devices. The role offers opportunities to work on matters in federal district courts, ITC and before the PTAB.
Responsibilities include:
- Analyzing patents and preparing invalidity and infringement contentions.
- Developing case strategy and working with technical experts.
- Drafting briefs and other substantive filings, managing discovery, and preparing witnesses.
- Taking and defending depositions and contributing to hearings and trial preparation.
- Working directly with clients and collaborating with colleagues across the firm.
Qualifications:
- A degree in computer science or electrical engineering.
- Approximately four or more years of patent litigation experience, with strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Experience with district court patent litigation; PTAB or International Trade Commission experience is a plus.
- Ability to manage substantial responsibilities on complex matters and work effectively as part of a team.
Applicants must currently be licensed, or currently eligible to become licensed, to practice law in the jurisdiction where they apply.
The salary range for this position is $310,000 to $435,000, commensurate with experience.
Eligibility for an hours-based bonus available.
