Description:

CommonSpirit Health and Polsinelli share a strong commitment to excellence in health care law. To support that commitment, they have established the CommonSpirit-Polsinelli Health Care Legal Fellowship Program (the “Fellowship Program”). Its purpose is to provide a unique opportunity for law students interested in health care and health care law to work directly with some of the best health care providers and health care lawyers in the country while gaining invaluable experience that includes both in-house and firm experience.

To be eligible for the Fellowship Program, applicants must: (1) demonstrate a commitment to advancing CommonSpirit's and Polsinelli's shared objective of broadening representation and including varied backgrounds within the legal profession, (2) exhibit a strong desire to work within a highly skilled, collegial team that strives for excellence in legal practice, and (3) be enrolled in, and in good standing at, an ABA accredited law school as a first-year student.

This Fellowship Program awards one Fellowship to a 1L law student with a strong interest in health care law for the 2026 Summer Associate Program in Polsinelli's Health Care Department. The selected Fellow will serve as a summer associate in Polsinelli's Denver or St. Louis office for five weeks and then as an in-house legal intern with CommonSpirit in their Denver office for another five weeks. In addition to participating in the Fellowship Program, the recipient will also receive a housing and travel stipend, which is subject to all required income and payroll taxes.

Roles and responsibilities of a summer associate include, but are not limited to, drafting a variety of legal documents such as motions, memos, and organizational documents; interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations; examining legal and other data to determine strategies for clients; and analyzing the probable outcomes of cases, negotiations, and other legal transactions, all with a health care focus. Polsinelli summer associates will work directly with health care attorneys to gain firsthand law firm experience. Polsinelli summer associates will be invited to general summer associate educational and social activities and will meet weekly with the Fellowship Program attorney supervisor who will provide focused health care law training.

Upon completion of a successful 1L Fellowship Program summer, the Fellow may also be offered special projects or clerkship opportunities within the Health Care Department during the school year and the opportunity to participate in the Fellowship Program for the Fellow's 2L summer in Denver or St. Louis. Upon the successful completion of the Fellowship Program, which includes up to two summers and possible special projects, the Fellow may be offered at the discretion of CommonSpirit or Polsinelli an in-house position with CommonSpirit or a full-time associate position with Polsinelli in its Health Care Department in its Denver or St. Louis office.
