Description:

The Energy & Natural Resources group of Reed Smith LLP is currently seeking exceptional 1L law students to join the firm's 2026 Summer Associate Program in our Austin office. Please submit the following required materials with your application: current resume, cover letter, law school transcript (unofficial versions are acceptable), and legal writing sample. You may update your application to include your transcript and writing sample as you are able.

Our program is designed to provide summer associates with a realistic snapshot of associate life within our firm while helping you develop the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful legal career. Reed Smith summer associates will have the support of partner and associate mentors, as well as the guidance of writing instructors who will help them hone their analytical and persuasive writing skills. Reed Smith's Learning & Development Summer Academy courses will supplement on-the-job training by covering development topics including Essentials of Effective Legal Writing, AI and Practical Law Training and Effective Presentation Skills. A myriad of social activities will serve as another terrific avenue to get to know future colleagues and summer associate classmates. Reed Smith is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Applicants for our Projects & Construction team (within the Energy & Natural Resources group) will have an interest in the full life cycle of large energy and infrastructure projects—renewables (on- and offshore wind, solar, battery storage), conventional power and LNG, and transport (highways, rail and terminals). Summer associates will support both transactions and disputes: drafting and reviewing construction agreements, and helping prepare research, pleadings, and fact development for domestic and international arbitration.

We look for individuals with strong academic credentials and varied experiences. Participation in law school activities (law review, moot court, etc.), strength of character, outstanding personal skills, demonstrated leadership and teamwork, a hunger for self-development, intellectual curiosity and a good sense of humor are must haves. Students who have applied energy towards building their skill set above and beyond the classroom are standouts for us. We also value community contributions, work experience and demonstrated initiative.

The compensation we expect to pay for this position is $4,327 per week. This position is not available to any candidates who will now or in the future require a U.S. visa from the firm, such as the H-1B, TN-1, TN-2, or E-3 visa.
