Description:

An Administrative Law Firm is a well-established downtown Kansas City law firm seeking a Litigation Associate to be an integral part of its litigation team, handling a wide range of responsibilities. The successful candidate will possess exceptional oral and written communication skills and demonstrate strong time management abilities. Immediate assignments upon hiring include factual investigation, legal research through Westlaw, drafting high-quality and compelling pleadings / motions / discovery documents, arguing motions, taking and defending depositions, and assisting in trial preparation and presentation.

Responsibilities:
  • Handle a diverse caseload under the supervision of senior attorneys;
  • Conduct thorough factual investigations of actual and potential claims;
  • Perform comprehensive legal research and draft well-reasoned and well-articulated legal memorandums, motions, and briefs;
  • Prepare high-quality pleadings, motions, and discovery materials—demonstrating an extreme attention to detail, a high quality of prose, and a meaningful contribution toward strategic goals;
  • Take and defend depositions of witnesses and experts;
  • Represent clients in court proceedings and argue effectively before judges;
  • Assist in trial preparation, including witness preparation and evidence organization;
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop effective litigation strategies; and
  • Maintain accurate and organized case files and documentation.

Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school;
  • Admission to Missouri Bar (additional Kansas Bar admission soon after hiring);
  • 2–4+ years of experience practicing law following bar admission (prior civil litigation experience is a plus);
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities;
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing;
  • Strategic and analytical thinking with attention to detail and the "big picture;" and
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team; and
  • Willingness to travel—albeit infrequently.
