Overview:
A Law Firm Advises on Transactions, Litigation and Regulatory Matters currently has an excellent opportunity for a West Coast Calendar Senior Staff Attorney in the Court Services Department. The West Coast Senior Staff Attorney reports to the Director of the West Coast Calendar department and advises litigation attorneys and staff on federal and state court procedural issues; reviews court filings and litigation documents; verifies calculation of procedural deadlines; monitors entry of dates using the Firm's calendar software; and acts as a resource for questions regarding civil procedure and case management in California, Washington, Oregon, and other states.

This position is hybrid and located in any of our California offices.

Responsibilities:
  • Advises attorneys and staff on matters relating to court procedure and rules.
  • Advises attorneys on procedural strategies.
  • Answers questions from attorneys and staff regarding court calendaring, civil and criminal procedure and individual judge's rules in state and federal cases.
  • Monitors paper and electronic service and filing of all court related documents.
  • Assists with and monitors entry of all litigation deadlines into Compulaw, the U.S. calendaring software.
  • Reviews court filings for compliance with the applicable rules of procedure.
  • Researches court rules, civil procedure, and case histories as needed.
  • Prepares correspondence to court personnel and/or outside service(s) as necessary for court filings.
  • Acts as a liaison between the attorneys and the courts.
  • Assists with applications to various court bar memberships.
  • Coordinates payment of filing fees, bar dues and association membership.
  • Collaborates with other managers in the Court Services Department and with CaseStream, the Service Center and Research & Information, among others.

Qualifications:
  • JD Degree and active admission to practice law in California.
  • Minimum of three year's prior similar related experience.
  • Judicial Clerkship or prior Managing Attorney experience a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge of California state and federal court procedure.
  • Familiarity with Aderant-Compulaw or compatible calendaring software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize high-volume workload and effectively interact with all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure and conflicting circumstances.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage change within a fast paced, dynamic and progressive organization while maintaining a commitment to the Firm's core values.
