A Bankruptcy Law Firm is seeking a 1st or 2nd year tax associate with 1-4 years of relevant experience to work in our Tax Disputes & Tax Litigation practice group in Washington, DC. Ideal applicants will have tax controversy experience and substantive tax knowledge. Relevant experience may be from a law firm or government agency (IRS or DOJ). Substantive tax knowledge may be from a work or academic setting.Sample responsibilities of the position include legal research, drafting internal and client legal memoranda, intensive factual investigation, witness interviews, responding to IRS requests for information, eDiscovery, drafting persuasive motions and briefs, and defending depositions. A Bankruptcy Law Firm associates work on client representations teams before the IRS examination function, the IRS Independent Office of Appeals, and in litigation. A Bankruptcy Law Firm associates quickly obtain significant responsibility with regard to factual development, legal research, and persuasive legal writing. A Bankruptcy Law Firm associates also quickly obtain direct client contact and direct interaction with the IRS on behalf of clients.
All applicants must have strong academic credentials, excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work as a team player under deadline pressure. Applicants with an LLM in Tax or knowledge and experience in substantive tax areas, as well as prior experience working directly with the IRS and DOJ Tax Division, or any previous experience as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), are encouraged to apply.
