DLA Piper’s Raja Gaddipati Fellowship is an in-house pipeline initiative that offers undergraduate students from underrepresented communities insight into a large law firm environment. The six-week, full-time paid summer internship involves a combination of research projects, lectures and direct mentoring. Students complete a rigorous application and interview process to compete for a limited number of seats. The fellowship is named in honor of our former partner, Raja Gaddipati, who was deeply involved in the community and engaged in the advancement of DLA Piper's diversity and inclusion initiatives. The 2023 program will host a small pool of interns in each of the following offices: Palo Alto, CA, and Los Angeles - Century City, CA. The program is scheduled to run from the middle of June through late July.
The ideal candidate is someone who 1) is diverse; 2) will be entering their junior or senior year in the fall of 2023 and has a genuine interest in attending law school or has recently graduated, taken the LSAT, or plans to take the LSAT, and intends to apply to law school in 2023 or 2024; 3) is performing well academically; 4) is committed to the furtherance of inclusion efforts; and 5) is actively involved in the community, social justice issues, and/or campus groups and activities.
Interested and qualified candidates must submit the following for consideration: résumé; unofficial school transcript; two letters of recommendation; a cover letter stating their interest in the internship. Applications will be accepted through February 22, 2023. ONLY COMPLETE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE REVIEWED. Please note that expenses, such as relocation, housing, or transportation fees, are the responsibility of the intern. Internships will be announced by March 31, 2023.

What will your internship experience include?
Your internship will include a variety of tasks providing you a broad view of the different types of work in a large law firm environment. Each day may find you working with different employees of DLA including, lawyers, paralegals, and staff. Your work day may include working on legal assignments, visiting a client with an attorney, attending court, attending local legal-based events, visiting local government entities, or visiting locally-based organizations.

In accordance with California’s Pay Transparency Law, pay rate for this position, if hired to work in California is $23.00 per hour. The compensation offered to a candidate selected for employment will be dependent upon various factors, including the candidate’s geographic market, skills, educational and professional background, experience and overall qualifications.
