Description:

A Non-Profit Organization seeks an attorney to join its friendly, hard-working staff. The position is within A Non-Profit Organization's Legal Advocacy group. The successful candidate will assist with identifying litigation opportunities that will contribute to enhancing NAHB's mission.

Common tasks include:
  • Assisting with developing litigation strategies on a variety of federal housing issues.
  • Managing outside counsel.
  • Reviewing federal legislation that impacts housing.
  • Presenting educational programs to members.
  • Preparing and reviewing briefs, pleadings, opinions, legal memoranda and other documents (including regulatory comments).
  • Conducting legal research on a wide variety of housing topics.
  • Attending industry coalition meetings.
  • Crafting amicus briefs for filing in federal and state courts.
  • Assisting other staff at all levels of the association by providing legal research and information to legislative and policy questions.

Qualifications:
  • Two to six years of relevant legal experience.
  • Knowledge of the Administrative Procedure Act notice and comment process.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, research, write and balance multiple assignments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a team setting and a willingness to travel occasionally.

Requirements:
  • Experience with environmental laws that impact land development and home building, including environmental laws.
  • Ability to work in a cross-disciplinary team environment and interact with NAHB's broad membership.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills.
  • D.C. Bar license or the ability to obtain. U.S. Supreme Court bar admission or ability to obtain.

Work Conditions:
  • Three days in person/two days remote.
  • Occasional travel is required.
  • Public speaking and presenting at local/state home-building associations may be required.
