Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan has an opening for a full time staff attorney in its Elder Law & Advocacy Center located in Redford, MI. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with long-term care Medicaid and caregiver issues in relation to care recipients, be comfortable with public speaking, handling pressure effectively and work collaboratively with others.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive legal services and representation to Wayne County clients aged 60 and older.
- Conduct thorough interviews with clients to understand their legal needs.
- Stay updated on legal issues relevant to seniors and apply this knowledge in client cases.
- Manage a personal caseload efficiently and effectively.
- Collaborate with the Managing Attorney to address case complexities and ensure quality representation.
- Perform various legal tasks including counsel, advice, document drafting, court appearance and representation.
- Fulfill any additional duties assigned by the Managing Attorney.
Qualifications:
- Possess a Juris Doctor degree, be licensed to practice law in Michigan, and maintain good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.
- Demonstrate familiarity in long-term care Medicaid and caregiver issues in relation to care recipients.
- Ability to work independently, handle pressure effectively, and work collaboratively with colleagues when necessary.
- Strong managerial and organizational skills are essential for successful performance in the role.
