Overview:
An International White Shoe Law Firm seeks an experienced senior technology and regulatory lawyer to join our in-house global Risk team.

You will act as product counsel to the Firm's internal and client-facing teams responsible for technology products and services, deeply embed with cross-functional teams, and participate in design partnerships with technology vendors. You will advise on complex and large-scale projects impacting the Firm's work globally. This role is well-suited for a proactive, hands-on, and practical product and regulatory attorney who is excited to build compliant-by-design products to achieve business goals and accelerate priorities while protecting the organization and its clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Work across a spectrum of legal, regulatory, ethical, business, and strategic issues related to law firm use of AI and technology products.
  • Deeply embed with cross-functional teams, including Information Security, Practice Innovation, and in-house implementation and engineering teams to build and maintain compliant-by-design AI and other technology products in house.
  • Participate in design partnerships with technology vendors to customize and configure products to meet regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and the Firm's client requirements.
  • Provide comprehensive, proactive, and business-forward advice on applicable laws and regulations, including concerning AI, cyber security, data privacy, intellectual property, and technology. Translate legal requirements into actionable advice.
  • Anticipate regulatory obstacles and emerging issues, stay on top of evolving compliance and ethical requirements, and develop solutions with other members of the global Risk team and business partners throughout the Firm.
  • Develop terms of use for technology products and proactively update internal governance frameworks and policies.
  • Advise and work collaboratively with the Firm's partners on technology requirements, governance, guidance, and client inquiries.
  • Advise the Firm's in-house lawyers who negotiate the firm's commercial and technology contracts as needed.
  • Increase the efficiency and scalability of the technology legal support provided by the firm's in-house global Risk team.

Qualifications:
  • Requires a JD and at least 5-7+ relevant legal experience at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house (a combination is a plus).
  • Experience with building compliant-by-design products.
  • Substantial experience working collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and excellent client-facing and interpersonal skills a must, with the ability to effectively interface at all levels of an organization.
  • Must possess strict attention to detail and be accustomed to working to very high standards of accuracy and efficiency, coupled with strong project management skills and the ability to effectively manage priorities in a fast-paced and rapidly-evolving environment.
  • Requires great judgment, ability to make risk-based assessments, and capability of solving problems and making smart decisions quickly in the face of ambiguity, an evolving regulatory landscape, and imperfect information.
  • Must possess willingness to jump in and do whatever needs to be done in an enthusiastic, proactive, and resourceful manner, and a strong work ethic with a high degree of accountability and organization.
