Job Description:As A Cloud-Based Customer Service Software Company' Product Counsel, you will serve as the first point of legal contact for the Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams with regard to product development, commercialization, product marketing, and compliance while providing practical day-to-day counseling. You will support the development and release of new products and features by identifying and driving the resolution of issues related to intellectual property, compliance, open source, privacy, data security, marketing, and other legal and regulatory areas.
Responsibilities:
- Both before the launch of new products and features and on an ongoing basis, perform legal due diligence in the areas of data privacy, open source, IP licensing, marketing, and other areas
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements relating to product development, integrations, developer tools, third-party software development, open-source software, and other technology and strategic partnerships
- Draft clear and concise disclosures, disclaimers, FAQs, for use in the product and features and the associated processes
- Improve and maintain our product and feature-related legal processes to help us scale globally
- Research and stay current on the latest laws, regulations, and updates in Product, Privacy, and AI space
- Negotiate data processing agreements (DPAs), business associate agreements (BAAs), and other similar agreements directly with customers, partners, and vendors to support compliance obligations
- Counsel engineering clients on a broad range of topics, including open-source software, privacy, regulatory compliance, accessibility, and other SAAS and AI related areas
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of product experience at a leading law firm, in-house, or preferably a combination thereof
- Experience in product counseling and commercial transactions in the SaaS/ Software space
- Familiarity with launching new products and features and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the SaaS/ software space
- Experience with Data Privacy, IT Security, and Accessibility issues in the technology space (CCPA, GDPR, HIPPA, PCI-DSS, WCAG, etc.)
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work across multiple time zones and cultures with remote and global teams
- Solid grasp of business processes related to commercial contracts, intellectual property, international data privacy, and data protection law
- Strong work ethic and sense of professionalism and discretion, demonstrating accountability, integrity, good judgement, and respect for confidentiality
- Ability to operate autonomously while being a team player who works collaboratively with internal and external clients
- Law degree from an accredited U.S. law school and license to practice law in California
