With just over 60 years of experience in the industry and 20+ offices worldwide, A Leading Partner in Intellectual Property (IP) Management manages nearly three million IP rights of around 8,000 customers.We are looking for a Senior Lawyer, Patent and/or Trademark Attorney (f/m/d) to lead our expanding intellectual property team at A Leading Partner in Intellectual Property (IP) Management in Chicago. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of legal expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the field of intellectual property. Preferred candidates will be a licensed U.S. Attorney and a registered Patent and Trademark Attorney with the USPTO. A technical background in either the life sciences or the digital/electronics field would be advantageous.
Responsibilities:
- Client Management: Overseeing D&A's portfolio of clients, providing strategic advice and ensuring their IP needs are met.
- Team Leadership: Leading, managing and mentor D&A's team of lawyers and support staff.
- Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing the firm's strategic plan.
- Negotiation: Negotiating and approving contracts, agreements, and settlements.
- Complex Legal Matters: Handling complex IP legal cases and litigation.
- Representation: Representing the firm at meetings, events, and public engagements.
- Business Development: Participating in business development and client acquisition efforts.
- Compliance: Ensuring the firm's compliance with legal regulations and professional ethics.
- Financial Management: Directing firm's P&L.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Typically, at least 10 years of experience in the IP legal field, with a proven track record of professional excellence.
- Skills: Superior negotiation skills, ability to attract and retain clients, strong leadership and management abilities, and excellent communication skills.
- A law degree and relevant legal qualifications.
- Educated to Masters-level in a STEM field (electronics, computer science or Life Sciences most preferable)
- Professionally qualified and Bar-registered as US Patent Attorney; additional national qualification(s) are desirable but not essential
- Strong knowledge and experience of client relationship management and IP private practice (patent, trademark), with proven track in casework (drafting, filing, prosecuting)
- Knowledge and experience of opposition and appeal procedures, contentious proceedings
- Knowledge and experience of managing professional teams for quality and growth
- Ability to work both independently and as part of an international team
