Description:
This role provides pragmatic, business-minded guidance to all of An Employee Benefits Company's business units, in a multifaceted position that encompasses contract review, drafting, and negotiation, as well as providing essential legal support, research, and analysis. Engages in cross-functional collaboration, ensuring that legal strategies align seamlessly with the broader business objectives. Will be expected to adapt and take on new responsibilities as necessary to meet the evolving needs of Trustmark and the legal department.Contract Reviewing, Drafting and Negotiations
- Review, negotiate and draft client contracts, Requests for Proposals, and commercial contracts for all of An Employee Benefits Company business units.
- Identify potential legal risks and provide strategic advice to mitigate those risks.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with various departments, including compliance, sales, operations, finance, and marketing, to provide legal support and guidance on business initiatives and projects.
- Develop support materials and provide trainings to educate An Employee Benefits Company's direct sales and customer implementation teams on contract terms and other legal issues.
- Work closely with external counsel when necessary.
- Collaborate and develop relationships with other members of the legal team in order to provide back up support as needed, including in areas outside of normal expertise.
Legal Support, Research and Analysis
- Support paralegals by providing guidance and mentorship in their day-to-day responsibilities.
- Conduct legal research on relevant issues to provide accurate and timely advice to the business units.
- Analyze and communicate the potential impact of legal developments on the business units.
- Other duties as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- Law Degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law or ability to become licensed in Illinois
- 3-5 years of experience as a practicing attorney
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to apply legal principles to practical business situations
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and influence stakeholders at various levels of the organization
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience in the insurance industry
- Prior in-house experience
