Description:

The Databricks legal team is looking for a highly motivated intellectual property attorney with at least 5 years of experience as an IP counselor to technology companies to protect Databricks's innovations. This is a great opportunity to join a growing legal team, where you will serve as the in-house subject matter expert on IP issues and you may have opportunities to take on a broad range of other legal work including supporting the product team beyond IP. You will work closely with our engineering, product, and marketing teams to understand and protect our key assets. You will join the Product and Privacy team, and report to the Managing Legal Director, Product who is based in Denver, CO.

The impact you will have:
  • Manage and drive the strategy for all IP types, with a particular focus on patents and open source
  • Write and update IP-related policies, guidance, and training
  • Assist commercial lawyers on IP questions in contracts
  • Provide counsel to product managers and engineers about new product launches
  • Manage relationships without outside counsel on IP matters
  • Scope and build the IP function on the legal team

What we look for:
  • JD from a respected institution and admitted to the bar in the state where you practice;
  • Degree or demonstrable experience in computer science, electrical engineering, or other relevant technical field
  • 5 or more years of experience in a law firm or in-house position focused on intellectual property litigation or counseling;
  • Expertise in patent law, and experience with software patents
  • Familiarity with copyright law, and experience with open source issues
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire deep knowledge of products in the technology space
  • Ability to work independently and comfortable working with colleagues around the world
  • Finely developed legal judgment and risk-based assessment skills
  • Strong "plain English" written and verbal communication skills, excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
