Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel, Intellectual Property, to join BMS' cardiovascular research and development center in San Francisco, CA. The attorney will support clients across multiple functional areas to build and leverage BMS' intellectual property interests, with a focus on small molecule products. Responsibilities include providing strategic counsel on all facets of intellectual property law, including patent procurement, enforcement, freedom to operate, and business development, as well as legal counsel to the Research & Early Development organization. The attorney will work closely with clients in various functions in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment and will collaborate with other in-house and outside attorneys to accomplish BMS objectives.

The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:
  • JD degree or equivalent and admission to at least one state bar.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, prefer biological and or chemical sciences. An advanced science degree and/or scientific research experience in biological or chemical sciences is preferred.
  • 8 or more years of patent law experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology field, or an equivalent combination of patent and pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry experience, preferably at least 3 years of which has been with a law firm.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Service-oriented focus with the ability to work as part of cross-functional teams and drive results.
  • Highest integrity, excellent judgment, and the ability to proactively recognize and effectively communicate legal issues to patent, legal and general management.
