An American Bank Holding Company is seeking an attorney to join the Law Division's Consumer Default Management legal team to support An American Bank Holding Company's Consumer and Business Banking Operations' (CBBO) mortgage foreclosure business. An American Bank Holding Company is a leader in the mortgage industry, offering a variety of banking and lending services, including residential mortgages and home equity loans across all 50-states.

In connection with those products and services, key roles and responsibilities for this position include:
  • Providing legal support to CBBO's mortgage foreclosure business line, assisting the business line with strategy, application of applicable laws, regulations, and policies
  • Advising the business line as to associated risk and assisting with management of heightened risk events
  • Interacting with operations, risk, and compliance partners to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, GSE and other investor requirements, as well as An American Bank Holding Company internal policies and procedures
  • Facilitating communication with and managing outside legal counsel, as needed
  • Collaborating with internal partners to review and resolve consumer complaints related to foreclosure, including identification of emerging trends or risk.

This position offers candidates a career with exposure to a variety of legal issues, while working with various departments at An American Bank Holding Company as a trusted legal and business advisor. This position is expected to be located in Minneapolis, Minnesota (although other locations will be considered), is a hybrid position (3+ days in-office and remote work).

Location Expectations
The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

Basic Qualifications:
Licensed by and in good standing with the appropriate state bar association or other appropriate state attorney licensing authority

Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Five or more years practicing law in an in-house legal department or at a law firm, preferably providing legal support related to mortgage default and foreclosure.
  • Prior experience in residential mortgage default or foreclosure law.
  • Strong knowledge of RESPA and TILA, familiarity with investor requirements.
  • Well-developed analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Comfort with and interest in working on a variety of legal matters.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to client service.
