Description:
The Office of Governor Tony Evers is seeking a full-time attorney to join the Governor's legal team. This is a Project Position funded through December 2026. This position reports to the Chief Legal Counsel and will work closely with the legal team and other staff in the Office of the Governor.Job Responsibilities:
The Project Legal Counsel will be responsible for a wide variety of legal work, with a focus on legal issues related to state and federal government programs and agencies, and federal litigation. For example, this position may:
- Provide legal advice and representation to the Governor and his staff.
- Monitor and respond to emerging issues where state and federal programs intersect or overlap.
- Research legal issues, including novel and evolving areas of law.
- Work with legal counsel for agencies and other government entities as required.
- Coordinate with outside counsel as directed.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Attorney admitted to practice in Wisconsin, or admitted to practice in another state and eligible for admission to the Wisconsin bar.
- At least 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
- Excellent legal research skills, and an ability to learn new legal topics quickly.
- Time management skills and an ability to prioritize critical tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated professionalism, diplomacy, discretion, and efficiency.
- Flexibility, including the ability to focus on a range of issues as needed.
- Experience working in, or closely with, the federal government, including at an agency or in Congress, is a plus.
- Experience litigating in federal courts is a plus.
