Description:
Conducts hearings and makes findings of facts and conclusions of law in matters alleging violations of criminal law etc.Responsibilities:
- Presides over various matters requiring judicial action prior to disposition.
- Presides over hearing and trials including jury trials.
- Hears evidence
- Compels production of relevant evidence, including books, papers, vouchers, documents, and other writings.
- Rules on admissibility of evidence.
- Issues summons and attachments for the appearance of witnesses.
- Examines witnesses
- Swears witnesses for hearings and trials.
- Performs acts and takes the necessary and proper measures for the efficient performance of duties as assigned by the Chief Magistrate.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Experience and Training:
Juris Doctorate, licensed to practice law in the State of Texas, and 5 years experience practicing law.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must be able to act independently on own authority.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Standard office environment.
