The Role:
This role will sit in our San Francisco office.
- Responsibilities will include all phases of litigation and arbitration; especially in commercial, maritime, and transportation matters.
- Oversee and manage state and federal insurance claims for both pre-litigation and litigation phases; including, assessing and preparing claims, and providing advice and recommendations to third party administrators.
- Familiarity with reviewing and analyzing contracts/agreements for indemnity obligations.
- Experience with insurance defense litigation, broker liability (including research on trends in case law), FAAAA preemption, and independent contractor issues preferred.
- Knowledge of and ability to draft pleadings (complaint and answer), motions, and memoranda of law. Including tenders/demands for defense and indemnity.
- Previous experience handling all phases of discovery, including drafting discovery requests and responses to discovery requests, and analysis of information produced in discovery.
- Ability to take and defend depositions, handle court appearances, and work collaboratively with team members to develop strategies for each case.
- The role will also involve contributing to the team's profile and undertaking business development activities to establish, develop, and maintain long-term relationships; including, writing articles/posts, attending events/conferences and building networks with private wealth contacts/intermediaries including global and peer firms and counsel.
Key Skills and Experience
- Strong academic credentials (J.D. required);
- Between 7 – 10 years of experience practicing in a law firm's litigation group;
- California Bar membership (in good standing) required;
- Experience with taking and defending depositions and handling court proceedings;
- Excellent drafting, writing, research and communication skills;
- Interpersonal skills and capability to communicated with defense counsel; both local and across the U.S.
- Exposure to sophisticated disputes and investigations (state and federal);
- Strong project management with an ability to balance a large number of competing priorities;
- Attention to detail; and
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a team;
- Compensation commensurate with experience ranging from $250,000 - $285,000.
