Position Summary:
As our Patent Counsel, you'll be at the forefront of safeguarding our most critical intellectual property. You'll have the chance to identify and protect innovative technologies, guide our engineering teams through the patent process, and play a key role in both offensive and defensive patent strategies. Your expertise will ensure that our cutting-edge developments remain secure in a competitive marketplace.
What You'll Do:
- Innovate & Protect: Identify patent opportunities and lead the drafting and filing of patent applications.
- Collaborate & Advise: Work closely with our engineering teams to evaluate invention disclosures and provide insightful patent advice that shapes our technological future. Work with external legal counsel in patent prosecution.
- Defend & Assert: Assist in evaluating patents during litigation and play a pivotal role in defending our intellectual property rights. Collaborate with external counsel on a variety of IP-related transactions, both domestically and internationally.
- Lead Projects: Take the lead on special projects and support the Deputy General Counsel – Intellectual Property & Product in complex legal matters that are crucial to the company's success.
What We're Looking For:
- Education & Licensing: J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school and licensed in good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. state. Must be registered and in good standing with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in patent counsel experience, prior patent prosecution experience is strongly preferred. Background in computer software or telecommunications preferred.
- Expertise: Functional knowledge of PCT practice and proven track record in managing complex patent portfolios
- Skills: Excellent communications skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with outside counsel. Proactive approach to seeking out patent opportunities with the ability to navigate a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
