Description:
Our growing immigration firm is looking to bring on a new attorney to handle all aspects of immigration and nationality law practice on a part-time basis.This position is for an attorney with 1-5 years' experience in immigration law.
While experience and knowledge are strongly preferred, we are willing to hire and train new lawyers who were recently admitted and demonstrate strong attitude and passion for immigration law work.
Position is almost exclusively remote / work from home. There may be a need to travel to attend in person hearings once or twice a month, especially for individual/merits hearings. All travel to attend hearings is fully paid for.
Duties include:
- Research relevant law and prepare motions, briefs, and appeals for use in EOIR proceedings (Immigration Court).
- Meet with clients via teams to develop cases, prepare affidavits and gather supporting evidence.
- Work with and supervise firm paralegals to fill out forms, prepare packets, and file applications with USCIS.
- Make immigration court appearances on behalf of clients.
- Ability to carry out direct examination of witnesses, objects to improper questions by DHS, and other aspects of trial work in an administrative law setting.
- Track individually assigned filing deadlines & hearing dates.
- Attend USCIS interviews with clients.
- Follow up with USCIS and EOIR and respond to requests for evidence and scheduling orders as needed.
Requirements:
- JD or LLM and admission to practice law in any US state.
- Must have strong legal research, writing and oral argument skills.
- Must be organized, detail oriented and diligent
- Must be able to carry out work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Strong Spanish language skills are a plus.
