Job Description:
The Summer 2023 Legal Intern will support the Universal Parks & Resorts (UPR) Legal & Business Affairs team in connection with various licensing and IP/rights matters for projects being pursued by the UPR Global Business Development and New Ventures teams. The ideal candidate will have completed at least one year at an ABA-accredited law school and have a strong interest in and familiarity with film and television productions, IP licensing transactions and themed entertainment exploitations.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Assisting with UPR's management of its third party business relationships, including the interpretation of and compliance with its third party IP license agreements, and preparation of contract summaries and best practices guidelines
  • Researching and summarizing global distribution and ancillary exploitation rights in NBCUniversal's intellectual properties, and contractual obligations in relevant talent agreements
  • Preparing contract drafts, summaries and reports as needed
  • Completing a specific summer project for presentation to UPR executive leadership
  • Attending team staff meetings to facilitate ongoing communications between UPR Legal & Business Affairs and UPR business partners.
  • Assisting with legal research as required
  • Performing various other duties as assigned
  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Salary range: $18-$25/hour

Qualifications:
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Must currently be enrolled in, and completed at least one year at, an ABA-accredited law school. Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required.
  • Must be familiar with the media/entertainment industry, production and digital media, basic contract documents and legal terms and procedures.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Desired Characteristics:
  • Excellent legal knowledge and experience analyzing copyright, trademark and personal rights issues, as well as strong analytical abilities and sound business judgment
  • Past experience and/or familiarity with licensing transactions
  • Proven ability to communicate professionally with all business levels over the phone, through written communication and in-person
  • Proven ability to work independently, identify and communicate creative solutions to challenges, maintain a strong focus on business priorities and be persistent in follow-through
  • Proven ability to orchestrate and execute multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment using resources effectively and efficiently
  • Proven ability to quickly and comfortably follow complex workflow processes and navigate various electronic systems
