The Legal Counsel is responsible for representing the organization on legal matters for litigation, internal investigations, and regulatory and government enforcement matters. They will support the management of A Banking Company eDiscovery program. Advise on evolving cybersecurity regulatory enforcement, increasing cybersecurity risks, and evolving Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning risks and developing regulatory frameworks. Support A Banking Company Executive Office on escalated and high-risk customer complaints, and supports business lines and Compliance on regulatory exams. Manage outside counsel as appropriate. Provide legal counsel and guidance to the company's and its various entities' management on strategies and solutions to potential, anticipated and/or identified legal, regulatory and/or compliance matters and issues of concern. Advise management and various partners to help ensure operations comply with laws and other regulatory provisions and contractual obligations.
  • Conducts internal investigations, with or without outside counsel support, including document review and analysis, internal interviews, and reporting.
  • Manages eDiscovery for litigation matters and internal investigations, including management A Banking Company preferred eDiscovery vendors.
  • Manages select litigation matters requiring including management of outside counsel.
  • Provides advice of cybersecurity risks and enforcement issues.
  • Provides advice on emerging AI/ML risks
  • Supports the resolution of high-risk customer complaints
  • Provides regulatory exam support

  • 5+ years Experience practicing in a law firm or as in-house counsel, preferably in the financial services industry.
  • Education: J.D. degree, and active license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • Requires litigation experience and experience in conducting investigations, particularly interviews.
  • Requires eDiscovery experience.
  • Requires working knowledge of and experience in cybersecurity laws and regulations that affect financial institutions.
  • Knowledge and experience of emerging AI/ML risks and developing regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to work well cross-functionally and provide practical and pragmatic advice to various levels of management and employees.
  • Ability to be versatile and adaptable.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize and manage workload, simultaneous tasks, and meet deadlines with a changing fast-paced environment.
