Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and driven Litigation Associate Lawyer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in state/federal court litigation and a strong commitment to human rights. This role involves investigating and preparing cases for victims of torture and state-sponsored terrorism, with opportunities to take on significant responsibility in handling complex legal issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support human rights cases.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents for federal court proceedings.
- Investigate claims, gather evidence, and interview clients and witnesses to build compelling cases.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop case strategies and represent clients in federal court.
- Take initiative in managing case responsibilities, including discovery, depositions, and hearings.
- Advocate passionately for victims of torture and state-sponsored terrorism.
- Stay updated on relevant legal developments in human rights and international law.
- Handle general practice litigation tasks.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in good standing
- Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience in civil litigation
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Eagerness to take on investigative tasks and assume greater responsibility in case management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to working with trauma survivors.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in human rights or international law.
- Familiarity with federal court procedures, including discovery and trial preparation.
