NGM is seeking a super smart, motivated, diligent, business-oriented and enthusiastic attorney to join our growing legal team. The ideal candidate has life sciences or biotechnology industry experience, with skills focused on (1) complex contracting, such as licensing and collaboration transactions, and (2) privacy and compliance matters. We will also consider a candidate with strong experience in one of these areas and a willingness to learn about the other.

Our ideal candidate will be motivated by the prospect of bringing investigational therapies to patients more quickly, ready to roll up their sleeves and be given responsibility from day one, and excited to make their mark on a collaborative and high-energy legal team. They will enjoy deftly unpacking legal concepts for those who specialize in other areas, making quick and practical decisions and creating a daily positive impact on the team and company.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research and keep informed of the latest privacy and compliance issues applicable to our industry and company
  • Prepare and implement policies and procedures for privacy, compliance and other matters, as needed
  • Collaborate on transactions, collaborations and various types of contracting, including due diligence and alliance management activities
  • Train company personnel on legal issues relevant to your areas of expertise
  • Research and resolve legal questions as they arise
  • Work collaboratively with our top-notch contracts team, providing your input and industry experience to the contracting process
  • Special projects and initiatives for the legal team, as needed

Experience and Skills Preferred
  • At least 4 years relevant professional experience in a law firm or in-house setting, focused primarily in the pharmaceutical, life sciences or biotechnology industry
  • Solid contracting background, including autonomous drafting and negotiation
  • Experience implementing best practices for privacy and compliance matters
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively across the company and to manage outside vendors
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on diverse tasks
  • Ability to assess risks and use good judgment to appropriately escalate them
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and committed to a high-quality work product
  • Management of urgent timelines while always striving to create a kind, respectful and inclusive work environment for all on the team
