Description:About the Position:
The Lead Attorney is responsible for managing the legal function of the project and will have a team of five Attorneys. This position is a member of the management team and has a direct reporting relationship to the Program Manager reporting to this position. The Lead Attorney works in collaboration with the other Attorneys in providing legal guidance to ensure actions are legally sufficient and meet State policy and procedural requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with members of the judiciary and court, State and County agencies, and community partner staffs.
- Attend and respectfully represent the State IV-D program in all judicial and, as directed by policy, administrative hearings involving Title IV-D cases.
- Provide legal advice and counsel on courses of action for child support enforcement in order to ensure fulfillment of contract requirements.
- Works with program manager and team leaders to manage office workflow and coordination between attorneys, case managers and support staff.
- Work with management on the development of standard operating procedures to streamline legal practices in accordance with State law and local administrative rules.
- Assists in establishing collaborative relationships with community-based organizations.
- Review consent agreements and other legal documents.
- Sign legal pleadings and prepare witnesses for hearings.
- Stay up to date on child support law and policy.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Licensed attorney and member of the Tennessee Bar
- Experience practicing domestic relations and/or child support law is preferred
- Prior experience leading a team preferred
