About the Office:United States Department of Justice's Office of the Deputy Attorney General (ODAG) is seeking law student volunteers for Spring 2026. The Office supports the Deputy Attorney General in advising and assisting the Attorney General on the full range of Department priorities, shaping and implementing Department-wide policies, and providing strategic oversight of all organizational components of the Department. ODAG plays a central role in coordinating major initiatives, supervising critical operational matters, and ensuring the effective administration of justice across the federal government.
Job Description:
Duties may include drafting and preparing memoranda and other legal documents at the direction of attorneys and paralegals; conducting research into legal decisions, opinions, and related authorities pertinent to ongoing matters; providing support to paralegals, attorneys, and administrative staff on a wide range of assignments; and attending and observing attorney meetings to gain exposure to high-level decision-making within the Department.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be currently enrolled in law school, have a strong academic background, excellent research and writing skills, experience with or a demonstrated interest in public service, and mature judgment. Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen and will be subject to a security background investigation. The successful applicant will collaborate effectively with other Department colleagues, exercise sound judgment, and have a positive attitude. Demonstrated commitment to the Department's mission and prior work experience with legal policy, legislation, regulatory matters, or judicial nominations preferred but not required. This position is 100% in person.
Salary:
This position is uncompensated; however, if your school offers interns academic credit, we will work with you to meet school requirements whenever possible.
