CPS is seeking a Law Clerk to support the Labor and Employee Discipline Unit by assisting with legal research, prosecuting employee dismissal hearings in front of administrative hearing officers, including reviewing investigatory reports, putting on witnesses for testimony and putting documentary evidence into the record using evidentiary rules, drafting disciplinary documents for schools, assisting in labor arbitrations, and assisting attorneys with post-hearing and post-arbitration briefs.

Job Summary:
The Law Clerk will receive mentorship and on-the-job training and gain familiarity with administrative law, labor law, and litigation/evidence practice.

This clerkship is part-time and temporary in nature. The ideal candidate will be able to commit to approximately 15 hours per week during the Summer (June 2, 2025 through August 29, 2025). Due to the part-time/temporary nature of this work, this is not a benefit-eligible position. This role will report to the Deputy General Counsel-Labor & Employee Discipline.

The part-time/temporary Law Clerk- Labor and Employee Discipline will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
  • Gathering background case information;
  • Contacting the client and witnesses to prepare them for their testimony; and
  • Presenting opening statements and closing arguments, direct and cross-examination of witnesses, and arguing orally before an administrative hearing officer
  • Other duties as assigned

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the part-time/temporary Law Clerk - Labor and Employee Discipline position must possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree; and,Current enrollment in Law School, with satisfactory completion of Evidence preferred.

Please note: Licensed attorneys will not be considered for this position.
