About Us: Segarra & Associates, P.A. is a small-sized, dynamic and expanding law firm with offices in Coral Gables, Florida and Orlando, Florida, practicing exclusively in the area of Matrimonial and Family Law since 2008. This includes, but is not limited to drafting of pre-marital agreements, litigating contested family law cases, certified family law mediation services, adoptions and court appointed Guardian ad Litem work. We are seeking a law clerk / intern who will assist attorneys that handle contested and uncontested dissolution of marriage cases; complex family court litigation; equitable distribution of marital assets and liabilities; paternity suits; establishment and / or modifications of alimony, determination of parenting plans, timesharing schedules and child support; enforcement of said court orders; as well as other matters related to the practice of Matrimonial and Family Law.Basic information about position: All applicants must be either a rising 2L or rising 3L currently enrolled at an ABA accredited law school. Litigation experience (whether in law school; public sector or law firms) is preferred, but not necessary as training / mentorship shall be provided. All applicants must be comfortable providing litigation support relating to Family Law matters from start to finish (including appeals). This position entails processing of discovery as required by Florida Family Law Rules; consistent litigation support for court hearings as well as mediation conferences; requires above average legal research and writing skills; and will provide the opportunity for motion practice under the supervision of the attorneys.
Experience in handling discovery is a plus. Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks is essential. Additionally, applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Dropbox, My Case, Florida e-filing portal and CourtMap. Applicant should also maintain strict attention to detail, be adept at client billing and possess strong written and verbal communication skills necessary to work as a member of the team and for interaction with clients. Compensation will be based on experience and ability.
Job Responsibilities: Litigation support; preparation for evidentiary hearings as well as mediation conferences; processing of discovery (mandatory disclosure, requests for production, interrogatories, etc.); legal research and writing; drafting of pleadings and motions under the supervision of an attorney; billing input; and clerical work. Proactively support attorneys in all facets of family law cases from beginning to end. Work with a team of professionals to provide the best possible case strategy and results for family law clients.
Hours: Hours will be flexible and negotiable. However, applicant will be expected to work at least twenty (20) hours per week in person.
Qualifications:
- Must be a rising 2L or 3L currently enrolled at an ABA accredited law school;
- Must reside in Florida in order to work in person at the office location;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and Florida e-file portal;
