Description:

(This is a hybrid office-linked role, with 2-3 days in our downtown Cleveland office each week, 25+ hours per week.)

Since 2014, Fund That Flip has challenged the status quo of slow, unreliable capital and gate-keeping into investment deals. We've grown into an end-to-end financial technology platform that helps entrepreneurs and investors generate wealth and make an impact in their own communities across the country.

We are doubling down on creating an exceptional experience in our lending business. For the Law Clerk, this means providing critical support across the legal and closing operations.

Who You Are:
  • You're an active law student, looking to expand your knowledge of real estate law and lending practices.
  • You're an elite communicator, excited to work closely with a team to work through complex and time-sensitive processes collaboratively.
  • You know yourself, your capabilities, and your opportunities for growth.
  • You're a do-er. You consistently deliver high quality, and are comfortable receiving feedback to further your learning and development.
  • You're organized and always thoughtfully manage your time to meet deadlines and provide updates along the way.

What You'll Do:
As a Law Clerk, you'll be a key part of the legal team, supporting essential processes that impact every aspect of our lending business. You'll gain experience in all aspects of our legal function by…
  • Supporting the drafting, preparation, review, and distribution of a variety of legal documents including:
    • Loan Documents
    • Mortgages
    • Deeds of Trust
    • UCCs
  • Potentially supporting the drafting, preparation, review, and distribution of the following additional legal documents:
    • Loan Discharge Documents
    • Assignment Documents
    • Loan Extensions
    • Other Signed Legal Documents
  • Corresponding with title companies to ensure proper recording and filing of lending instruments and finalization of title policies.
  • Potentially supporting the Legal Support and Closing Attorney Teams in the title date down process.
  • Supporting the Closing Attorneys, Paralegals, and Legal Assistants in the completion of legal tasks.
  • Collaborating closely with other members of the loan production team to meet deadlines.
  • Supporting the Company as needed, including other departments on an ad-hoc basis.

Day in the Life
It's Monday, so there's an opportunity to gather with the legal team to escalate questions, blockers, or even share if you need assistance or have capacity to share with the team. The members of the legal team have the option to meet for this type of informal touch base three times a week, plus one standard recurring meeting of the whole legal team on Tuesdays.

You'll likely have more frequent connection points with the team leads in the legal team as you come across questions, escalations and exceptions in your day-to-day drafting and researching. You'll have the opportunity to identify process improvements in your daily tasks and collaborate on solutions with the business analyst on the team.

Your First 90 Days in the Role
Your training will begin with some Fund That Flip basics (who are we, what do we do, where does the role fits into the org). This is delivered through a partnership between our People Team and the Legal team. You'll be set up with the hardware and tools needed to execute at a high level from the very beginning.

You'll accomplish early success in the role by immersing yourself in team best practices and absorbing essential team information. We'll provide the context and knowledge which, coupled with your curiosity and urgency, will support the accelerated actualization of the anticipated impact you'll have in the role.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Currently an active law school student (preferred part-time or evening student status), no previous professional experience required.
  • Knowledge of mortgage and lending practices preferred.
  • Technical proficiency, with knowledge of the following tools (used frequently in the role) preferred, but not required:
    • Legito
    • Microsoft Word
    • Adobe Acrobat
    • Google Workspace
    • Slack
