NFC is looking to hire an employment law Associate for our Chatham, New Jersey office. This position will be filled by a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual who excels in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment that values top-quality work and positive contributions to the workplace. This particular position is perfect for an employment attorney seeking a position that is primarily non-litigation. While some litigation work will be required, the position is focused on a wide range of advisory work, similar to an in-house attorney role.

Location: Hybrid – work in NFC's Chatham, NJ office a minimum of two (2) days per week. Under NFC's current hybrid model (which is subject to change), in-office days are every Wednesday, with a second day on either Tuesday or Thursday. Must be flexible and willing to work in person for additional days as needed for coverage and/or other business needs.

Essential Functions:
Applicants should ideally have approximately 3 years of substantive employment law experience with a strong interest in providing employment law advice and working on employment law litigations.

Primary responsibilities include providing employment law advice to NFC's private sector corporate clients in New Jersey and New York. In addition, the associate in this role will be expected to work on some employment-law related litigations.

Work shall include but not be limited to:
  • Research regarding a wide range of employment issues, including discrimination, harassment, wage and hour issues, hiring, performance management, FMLA/ADA issues, sick leave laws, leave of absence issues, terminations/RIFs, restrictive covenants and COVID-19 guidance and related laws
  • Assisting with advising clients on a wide variety of employment issues, including drafting comprehensive emails to clients and delivering advice via phone or virtual platforms
  • Document and policy preparation (e.g., Handbooks, Separation Agreements, Restrictive Covenant Agreements, Policies, etc.)
  • Assisting with and conducting client trainings on a wide variety of employment law issues
  • Assisting with DOL Audits
  • Responding to pre-litigation demand letters
  • Responding to agency (EEOC, NJDCR, NYSDHR) Charges
  • Drafting pleadings and motions
  • Conducting legal research
  • Preparing and responding to written discovery (including E-discovery)
  • Preparing and responding to motions
  • Assisting with deposition preparation, mediations, etc.
  • Attending depositions/hearings/mediations as required
  • Trial preparation
  • All aspects of litigation including conducting work on: lawsuits; EEO, DOL, and other administrative charges; pre-litigation demands; subpoenas, etc.
