Description:
As Intellectual Property Counsel you will report to and work closely with the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel and will be responsible for a wide range of tasks involving the acquisition, maintenance, and enforcement of company intellectual property (IP).This role will be based at the Company's Americas Regional Headquarters in Carmel, Indiana.
What you will do:
- Assist the Chief IP Counsel in developing and maintaining a global intellectual property portfolio for the enterprise.
- Work in coordination with the Chief IP Counsel to implement global patent strategies for the protection of innovations.
- Counsel business management and product teams on intellectual property matters, including advising on the cost and effective use of intellectual property; avoiding or reducing the adverse impact of third-party intellectual property; and counseling on legal issues relating to branding, advertising and promotional programs.
- Support business and Chief IP Counsel in potential and pending intellectual property litigation.
- Draft agreements for IP-related transactions, including license agreements and M&A support.
- Draft and prosecute select patent applications.
- Maintain internal database records for invention disclosures, patent portfolio, trademark matters, and related correspondence.
- Provide regular support to Chief IP Counsel and internal stakeholders on all company IP matters, including support for global patent and trademark filings made by outside counsel.
- Support patent review committee meetings to include presenting at the meetings and communicating with inventors pre and post meetings.
- Help administer inventor incentive and inventor recognition programs.
- Point person for unsolicited idea submissions from external parties.
- Assist with oversight of outside counsel on patent and trademark matters.

What You Need to Succeed:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as Intellectual Property Attorney
- Engineering or technical degree, preferably in Mechanical, Computer or Electrical engineering or a related field
- Possess a law degree, be registered with the USPTO, and be a member of a State Bar in good standing.
- Patent preparation and prosecution experience.
- Product clearance experience.
- Superior legal and analytical skills – excellent judgment and initiative in selecting the most effective solutions and possess a business-oriented approach to problem solving.
- Ability to prioritize and balance long-range projects with shorter fuse activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, and highly organized.
- Self-directed.
- Receptive to feedback and willing to learn.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
- Familiarity with technologies relating to A Security Company products, services and business strategies is a plus.
