About An In-House Firm: The New Jersey Hospital Association is a not-for-profit trade organization representing New Jersey's hospitals, health systems, behavioral healthcare systems, rehabilitation hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, assisted living, nursing homes and other healthcare providers. An In-House Firm and its affiliates, the Health Research and Educational Trust of New Jersey and Healthcare Business Solutions, share a collective goal of improving the health of New Jerseyans through services and programs that enhance quality, affordable, equitable, and accessible healthcare.

Objective: The ideal candidate will provide legal support to the General Counsel and company-wide staff members of An In-House Firm and its affiliates regarding corporate transactions, healthcare legislative and regulatory matters, contracts, compliance, employment matters, trustee relations and governance issues.

Qualifications:
Qualifications: Juris doctorate degree with a license to practice and a member in good standing of the New Jersey Bar or licensed as in-house counsel of the New Jersey Bar. A minimum of 1-year general corporate, clerkship or law firm experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate legal issues in a clear and understandable manner. Strong writing/proofreading, organizational, communication and research skills, solid work ethic and ability to produce high quality work under deadline pressures. Healthcare industry, contract, and data privacy experience preferred.

Essential Job Functions:
  • At the direction of General Counsel, provides legal support to An In-House Firm staff including legal implications and aspects relative to business practices, contracting, corporate strategies, employment law, and legal trends.
  • Reviews case law, legislation and regulations and provide summaries/comments/recommendations to General Counsel, leadership and staff.
  • Reviews, prepares and edits legal documents, policies and procedures.
  • Processes billing related to legal matters.
  • Manages legal correspondence and contract management database functions. Builds workflows, performs analytics, and coordinates approvals and execution of contracts.
  • Serves as a litigation liaison by working with outside counsel on assigned matters.
  • Assists in drafting, revising and updating company policies and standard operating procedures for in-house legal department.
  • As directed by General Counsel, serves as corporate legal advisor, compliance officer support, helps to manage constituency groups, and/or coordinates use of other outside counsel.
  • Serves as liaison for An In-House Firm with members and related programming, upon request. Provides advice on trustee relations and governance issues.
  • Prepares agendas and participates in In-House Counsel, Corporate Compliance and other constituency group meetings as directed by General Counsel.

Non-essential Job Functions:
  • Represents the New Jersey Hospital Association and its affiliates at industry, educational or business events as directed by the General Counsel and President & CEO.
  • Attends trainings and special events as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
