A Home Construction Company is currently looking for a HR Employment Attorney. The right candidate will will manage employment litigation and other labor/employment matters by advising the Human Resources (HR) Department on legal issues involving employees. Review and develop personnel rules, policies, and procedures to comply with current legal requirements. Provide ongoing legal guidance and interpretation regarding human resource policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.:
- Interpret and advise the HR Department on wage and hour laws, disability and leave requirements, workplace harassment, compliance, discrimination, and wrongful termination
- Partner with HR team and Corporate Legal to advise and manage day-to-day employment matters to include labor and litigation issues such as investigations and escalated employee issues
- Serve as trusted in-house legal adviser for the HR Department on labor and employment matters to include leaves of absence and accommodation guidance
- Provide key legal support for core HR processes, including elevated employment and Code of Conduct matters, compliance training, application and new hire (including background check) processes, and routine employment agreements. Includes development of policies and forms, drafting of individual agreements, and advice and guidance regarding a host of complex employment matters
- Be primary liaison with outside national employment counsel to proactively identify and appropriately mitigate risk to drive the best outcomes
- Coordinate legal matters with in-house counsel and / or outside counsel as needed
- Develop, maintain, communicate and apply knowledge of industry best practices in labor and employment matters; assist with the education and training of best practices and changes in law
- Draft and review employment agreements, contracts, company policies, training materials and employee handbooks for compliance with laws
- Responsible for assisting and managing all types of pre-litigation and litigation matters related to labor and employment issues
- Manage various aspects of employment related litigation, such as motion hearings, mediations, and depositions
- Engage in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution processes
- Proactively support other departments and functions as the Subject Matter Expert on employment/labor law and litigation
- Conduct legal research and stay abreast of industry developments to ensure the highest quality of legal services
- Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
- Ability to travel overnight

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
- Juris Doctoral degree (JD) and current license to practice law is required
- Five to seven (5-7) years of experience (preferably on the management side) handling claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, leave/accommodations and wage & hour
- Strong knowledge of state and federal laws, and excellent research and negotiation skills
- Ability to persuade, influence, negotiate, and make formal presentations in meetings and training environments
- Possess exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds
- Ability to develop strong business relationships with all levels of the organization
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications
- Proficiency with MS Office and email
- Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision
- The noise level is generally moderate
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in labor and employment law required
- Ability to draft corporate policies and procedures
- Mediation and arbitration experience; corporate legal experience is a plus
