The Role:
Kite is looking for a Legal Intern to work in a dynamic team environment. The Intern will be working on lots of exciting projects, including updating a new web-based document management system, processing documents, and maintaining an electronic database relating to intellectual property matters.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Process documents, correspondence, and e-mail from global Patent and Trademark Offices, U.S. law firms, and foreign counsel
- Draft formality documents and reporting letters for attorneys and clients
- Search information and documents in the United States Patent and Trademark system
- Update a web-based document management system and electronic database
- Prepare training resources for the use of IP portals and workflows
- Locate and download legal documents and new legal publications
- Review and summarize case law related to life science industry and set up a case law database
- Submit electronic files to the online filing system of U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
- Participate in other legal administrative-related duties, reports and special projects
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years or older
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.8
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without work authorization sponsorship now or in the future
- Must be currently enrolled in a full-time graduate degree program at an accredited U.S. based university/college
- Must have completed at least one year of study at an accredited university/college prior to internship commencing
- Must be enrolled full-time in the Fall Semester at an accredited U.S. based university/college after the completion of the internship – with earliest graduation date of December 2023 or Spring/Summer 2024
- Must be able to complete a 10-12 consecutive week internship between May and August
- Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship
- Must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and first booster shot
- Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in graduate program with emphasis in legal studies; law student is preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to identify issues and seek solutions
- Ability to prioritize daily tasks and have good attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in dynamic team setting
- Good verbal, written, interpersonal and telephone communication skills
- Efficient, organized, and able to handle short timelines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience and/or interest in the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical or health-care industry
