A Government Entity is a state government agency with regulatory oversight of investor-owned public utility companies. Its duty is to ensure the safe and reliable provision of utility service at just and reasonable rates. The Commission regulates electric, gas, water, sewer, and steam utilities. It also regulates manufactured housing and has limited jurisdiction over telecommunication companies.Responsibilities - What you'll do
- Serve as General Counsel for the five-member Commission.
- Provide legal advice to the Commissioners and represent the Commission in all external litigation matters.
- Defend Commission decisions on appeal.
- Represent the Commission in cases before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
- Represent the Commission in personnel matters.
Qualifications - All you need for success
- The candidate must have a Juris doctorate degree and admission to practice law in Missouri and be a member in good standing of the Missouri Bar and;
- Must have at least 5 years of civil and administrative litigation experience and/or government regulation, including at least 3 years of “first chair” experience or 5 years of adjudication experience.
- Detailed knowledge of the Missouri and Federal rules of evidence, civil procedure, public records administration, trial and appellate practice, administrative procedure, and general practice procedure before judicial and administrative tribunals.
- Maintain the highest level of responsibility, professionalism, leadership, integrity, and legal expertise.
- Ability to manage all stages of a significant caseload of complex cases from initial investigation through final appeal and the supervision of assigned subordinate attorneys and staff.
- Experience in public utility regulation or field of law directly related to public utility regulation is preferred, but not required.
- Excellent brief writing and oral argument skills.
