A Typical Day
The First Vice President Assistant General Counsel will provide extensive support related to intellectual property law to the company's information technology, generative AI, mortgage operations, and compliance functions. In this role, the attorney will have responsibility for addressing and/or managing all of the intellectual property needs of the needs of A Top National Mortgage Lender, working across all departments and business units to ensure comprehensive IP strategy and alignment. The First Vice President Assistant General Counsel will provide extensive support related to intellectual property law to the company's information technology, generative AI, mortgage operations, and compliance functions. In this role, the attorney will have responsibility for addressing and/or managing all of the intellectual property needs of the needs of A Top National Mortgage Lender, working across all departments and business units to ensure comprehensive IP strategy and alignment.

The First VP Assistant General Counsel will:
  • Advise clients on legal rights and actions involving copyrights, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets
  • Supervise outside counsel
  • Lead ongoing training programs across the entire organization.
  • Negotiate and/or draft IP-related agreements, including technology-related contracts or software licensing agreements with the company's vendors or service providers
  • Trademark Prosecution, with assistance from outside counsel
  • Conduct research and interviews to help with the company's court cases or legal proceedings
  • Assist in determining patentability and drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO, with assistance from outside counsel when needed
  • Build scalable systems or processes to manage new technologies.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

  • Ensure all company trademarks and service marks are protected and, as applicable, filed or renewed
  • Conduct research and interviews to help with the company's court cases or legal proceedings
  • Evaluate inventions to determine patentability and drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO, with assistance from outside counsel when needed
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

What You'll Bring
  • College degree and J.D., from an accredited law school, along with admittance to the applicable state Bar
  • 6+ years experience with a law firm or as in-house counsel with relevant experience in the areas of intellectual property law in both transactional and litigation areas
  • Strong Knowledge of U.S. and international IP laws and regulations
  • Experience with IP portfolio management and enforcement, including litigation support
  • Experience in the technology and/or housing finance industry a plus
