  • Managing the Gilpin district court docket, representing the Office of the District Attorney, and handling all felonies, complex cases, and homicides. This includes specialty unit cases with the assistance of the assigned unit attorneys.
  • Working collaboratively with office and court staff; meeting with victims, witnesses, and defense attorneys. Serve as mentor for county court attorney assigned to Gilpin County.
  • Meet regularly with leadership in local law enforcement, gaming, and community partners
  • Liaison with local law enforcement
  • Preparing briefs, opinions, motions and pleadings as well as other legal documents and routine correspondence; conducts legal research as required.
  • Demonstrating the essential trial skills involved in jury selection, opening statements, direct and cross-examination and closing arguments.
  • Exercising discretion for charging, appropriate disposition of cases, and request for sentences.
  • An ideal candidate will evaluate cases holistically to determine the best outcome for all parties.
  • Attending various trainings on the role of a prosecutor, understanding various diversion and treatment options, and other restorative justice programs.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and prosecute assigned homicides in both Jefferson and Gilpin Counties
  • Assignment to designated cases in Jefferson County
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • This position is primarily based in Black Hawk, Colorado, with office space also provided in Golden. Work from home, when feasible, is permitted. The First Judicial District Attorney is seeking applicants with a specific interest in serving the Gilpin County community long-term.

The Gilpin County District Court DDA receives special assignment pay of $5,000 per year in addition to their base pay.

The successful applicant with less than 8 years of total relevant experience will be titled Deputy District Attorney, District Court, at an annual salary range of $95,000 - $125,000, depending on experience.

The successful applicant with 8 or more years of total relevant experience will be titled Senior Deputy District Attorney, at an annual salary range of $120,000 - $160,000, depending on experience.

Current Colorado bar license required.
