The Litigation and Investigations Legal team operates in a demanding and fast paced environment. As Director, Assistant General Counsel, you will be a pivotal member of our legal team. You will lead a team of lawyers who provide legal support for An American Auto Insurance Company on insurance coverage, claims related and enterprise litigation alleging extra-contractual liability, complex institutional and electronic discovery matters. As a result, you will mitigate the legal, financial, and reputational risks that may arise. You will report directly to the Vice President of Enterprise Litigation and Investigations.

Location:
This is a hybrid role, on-site 3 days per week at Chevy Chase, MD; New York, NY; and Cleveland, OH.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead efforts to identify and implement new solutions while optimizing existing solutions to streamline the operations in Legal and improve legal intake process and workflows with a focus on efficiency and scalability.
  • Track performance in the division with key metrics/KPIs and periodically provide reports to the Vice President of Litigation.
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders including underwriting and product to drive business results and provide insights to improve the Company's insurance products and minimize risks.
  • Build relationships with key internal partners to better understand the business transformation and prepare for, and execute, related communications initiatives.
  • Mentor, develop and inspire a strong team of lawyers, including setting strategy and goals, providing development and leadership.
  • Lead high-level transformational projects and change management.
  • Track and understand the external environment and advise business partners in the organization.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from a recognized, accredited law school.
  • 7+ years of experience including claims legal function.
  • Experience with evaluating and managing reserve adequacy on claims related litigation.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strategic judgment to assess risks and make informed decisions.
  • Prior experience managing a team of legal professionals.
