Description:
Position: The Housing Division of the Office of the City Attorney has an opening for a Deputy City Attorney.Duties and Responsibilities: The attorney will primarily perform transactional work involving City as a landowner and a lender in low income and affordable housing-related matters by drafting and amending real estate documents, including, but not limited to loan agreements, regulatory agreements, covenants, ground leases, and land sale agreements. The attorney may be required to draft service contracts and amendments thereto, for LAHD contractors, handle procurement matters (including requests for proposals (RFP) and requests for qualifications (RFQ)); and handle overflow work for the Housing Division as needed.
In addition to providing advice to LAHD staff, the attorney will advise the Mayor's office, City Council, Council Committees and other City Departments and Commissions on selected Housing Division matters regarding housing issues and may be required to draft ordinances.
Required Qualifications: Applicants for this position must have a license to practice in all California state courts. Additional qualifications include:
- Real estate and transactional experience;
- Contract drafting experience;
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Experience in policy analysis;
- Ability to deal effectively with public officials, departmental personnel and members of the public;
- Knowledge and experience in handing a broad range of redevelopment, municipal law and real estate transactional matters.
Writing Sample: Candidates are required to submit one (1) writing sample personally authored by them, which may be a recent brief, motion or opposition, research memo, or legal memo.
Probation: Appointment to this exempt position (non Civil-Service) will be subject to a two (2) year probationary period as required by Section 1050 of the City Charter. Successful completion of the two (2) year probationary period will result in tenure with the office.
