Job Description and Duties:
The Government Law Section litigates high-profile and impactful constitutional issues, often in defense of state laws that protect the safety and wellbeing of all Californians. A critical portion of this work is in defense of California's commonsense firearm laws designed to protect our communities from gun violence. We are actively recruiting highly qualified attorneys who are interested in rewarding work, as part of a talented team that is primarily focused on our engaging Second Amendment practice. In addition, the Government Law Section offers various opportunities to provide legal advice and representation to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Controller, Treasurer, Secretary of State, Department of Finance, and other state agencies and departments on a wide range of legal issues. These include constitutional and statutory law, government operations, elections, federalism, labor and union issues, housing reform, criminal justice reform, criminal information, internet privacy, state mandates, and other issues. Representation involves appearances in state and federal courts throughout California, at both the trial and appellate levels. Attorneys in the Government Law Section also prepare titles and summaries for ballot measures and analyze proposed state legislation. If you are well qualified and desire to be part of a talented team that furthers California's important public interests every day, then we strongly encourage you to apply.
